Felxible Volunteering

AOlogoA4-7

The AO Voluntary association depends on people volunteering for us. Primarily we wish to provide therapeutic volunteering opportunities for Autists. Our scheme is designed to be flexible and tailored to individual needs. However we use exactly the same scheme for our non-autist volunteers.
Our unique volunteering scheme is one of the reasons that our organisation is different from a non-autistic organisation.

Firstly, we invite anybody who has an interest, obsession, passion or skill to meet with us and discuss ways in which it might be incorporated.
Then we decide what the volunteer wishes to contribute and what the AO wishes to contribute to the project. Sometimes this might mean joining an existing project or sometimes starting a new one. Our aim is to link projects together as much as possible.

For example, we have volunteers who are interested in music and volunteers interested in art design. We have a music project for putting on music nights where the proceeds go to the AO and we have an art project for designing it's posters and decorations!

The projects are designed to be therapeutic and also may contribute to a portfolio or CV. We will use our business experience to grow the project and provide resources and funding wherever possible. There is no limit to what can be accomplished. For example, the ultimate aim of the music night project is to set up a chain of Autism friendly nightclubs.
We intend to develop the project to such an extent that it can afford to pay the core members a wage.
